Madame Phyllis Latin, founder and director of the Phyllis Latin American Dance Center, received the majority of her training under Hildegarde Fritche Lewis. She continued her ballet study with Obokov and Muriel Stuart at the School of American Ballet and furthered her dance knowledge by studying Modern dance under Norman Walker and Hanya Holm, and Jazz under Matt Mattox and Luigi.

Madame’s teaching experience spans over fifty years and includes serving as a member of the faculty at the National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan; the University of Michigan, and Albright College, Pennsylvania; and tutoring for the Dance Degree Program at Empire State College. Madame Latin also served as guest teacher for the Canadian Ballet Association and has taught master classes in dance throughout the country.

Madame Latin has been a choreographer for television, light opera and summer stock, along with touring Europe professionally.
